Transfer Case Vent

1999 Ram CTD 2500. Drained the transfer case today and did not have fill plug removed. Oil gurgled out as if no venting taking place. Found what appears to be vent hose that runs up to loom of vacuum hoses and then to firewall. Blew and sucked on vent but only heard clicking of a valve. No air flow.
Can anyone shed light on transfer case vent. ???

Re:Transfer Case Vent

Sounds like You heard one way check valve seating and unseating I assume that it allows excess pressure,or fumes to escape but designed not to allow anything to re enter unit. I know its mounted high but picture water entering the end of the hose ,check vale for keeping it out.
Therefore I think what You described is normal , to have any air reentry to drain remove fill plug
