Trans slips out of lockup

About two weeks ago I serviced my trans and adj the Bands( don't think this could have anything to do with this though)... and the last couple of days ,I noticed that when the truck is fairly cold the converter will slip out of lock up for a split second, and the back into lockup... this is with minimal throttle the truck has about 140,000 miles but the trans has been well taken care of and the fluid still look good and had no burnt smell to it.... is this a converter pressure issue or a converter going out ???

Chris - Try the simple stuff first, reset your APS. My dad has the same truck as you and this solved his problem. Check out this thread:
http://www.dodge-diesel.org/yabbse/i...threadid=13703
Re:Trans slips out of lockup

chrisf. Dont know if the 24 valve autos have a throttle position sensor like the 12 valve autos do but if it does you might want to hose down the shaft going into it with contact cleaner. Worked good for me but then I have a 12 valve auto and the TPS is easy to access because it is on the side of the fuel injection pump, right next to the throttle linkage.

Dave Gardner

Re:Trans slips out of lockup

I broke out a home made line pressure tester today and I have 60 psi second gear release and well over 100 on reverse? ( not sure my guage only went upto 100psi)that seems a little high??? I did a little searching and found what all the ports were now I was just guessing at first. I still need to check the main line pressure... my question is what should everything be at? I heard around 60 psi... keep in mind all this Auto tranny stuff is French to me ;D

Re:Trans slips out of lockup

just so you don't drive yourself crazy ( as i did in the past )..ive got the same truck, did the re-flash, reset the APPs, etc... and every once in a while it will begin locking and un-locking for a day or so for no reason then go away for no reason for sometimes a couple months...i contacted bill k. w/ DTT and he said their isn't an exact fix for this, you can buy a noise filter from him ( problem usually has something to do w/ eletrical intereference he said) and it MAY cure the problem..try cleaning the TPS, this has helped some guys on the site, but bottom line..dont go crazy if it happens once in a blue moon!

Re:Trans slips out of lockup

reset the TPS works great now no problems for over a week now... other than the fact that I am going to be replacing my Vp-44 this week :'(
