Teflon tape in steering line?

I had a leaky pressure hose on my power steering system, so I replaced it. But now the hose leaks from where it threads into the back of the pump?

Is it okay to throw some T-Tape on there in order to stop the leak?

Just make sure you don't get any tape past the tip. I would start about a thread and a half back.

Teflon tape will not fix it, it is a flared fitting. There's a piece of trash or a burr keeping the mating surfaces apart, or one of them is gouged. Pull it apart again and clean it up, see what you can see. If it looks good, put it back together and it should seal.

I have used teflon tape on flared fittings before. It seals some but not others, it depends on why they are leaking.

Leak.

If the flared fitting is nicked or has any damage to it it will not seal and if you over tighten it you will have more problems.
If I have a flare fitting that will not seal, I use a repair cone, they come is all the assorted sizes and are available from most any hydraulics supply houses.
And now that I think of it, I remember seeing them at Pep Boys, they are in the auto air conditioning where the fittings and adapters are.
They will look like a small copper cone the size of the flare with a hole in the middle. Thet are actually little gaskets that will crush and seal the leak.
Saved me a few times. Jim.
BTW In Southern California, Hose Man carries them.

Thanks Jim.
Here is the website for the company,
http://www.hose-man.com/sys-tmpl/door/

Like I said I think that I saw them at Pep Boys in the A.C. fittings like for the R-134 conversion kits but any decent HVAC supply house will have them including Graingers. They come like 6 in a bag and they cost a few bucks.
I know for sure I have gotten them from this company. Check Refergeration Flare Fittings, then Gaskets.

http://www.e-johnstonesupply.com/scr...yes&category=8

Now I have my HVAC license but they will usually sell to you if you walk in off the street.
Hope this helps.
Jim.
