stripped bolt hole??

I just got done sliding the plate forward (for the first time) and i was putting the last of the four bolts back in. it was the one on the firewall/ drivers side. it didnt tighten down though. it was like it had been overtightened (of course not by me.) it looks like the casting that it is going into is made out of aluminum so that would explain if it is stripped. the bolt was fine. it also had alot of what looked like oil on it. this could possibly be the source of a leak. is there any way to get that bolt to tighten up without a huge disasembly? would heli-coils work?

Don't you mean you moved the AFC housing?

I think a 1/4-20 helicoil would work fine in place of the 6mm threads. You would just have one standard bolt with the three metric ones - no big deal. I'm sure they make metric helicoil kits but I have only ever seen them for sparkplug threads.

You will certainly have to remove the AFC housing to properly install the helicoil though. Make sure to cover up the pump so you don't get any shavings down the top of it.

Good luck!

thanks for the info. would that be a possible sorce for air to leak into the fuel, or a source for oil to come out of the engine. the threads of the bolt were covered in oil.

There is oil in there but not under pressure. I've known guys who have test driven with the allen head plug that covers the star wheel removed, no oil came out. No air can get into the fuel from that area.
