Stock Air Box Cracked

When I pulled the cover off the stock air box the lower part cracked badly. The crack runs from the plastic tabs facing the front of the truck, down to the center of the bottom part. The local Napa cannot get me a BHAF untill the middle of the week. The seal around the filter looks o.k. because the top of the filter box holds it closed. Should I be o.k. to drive the truck untill the BHAF gets here? I need it to haul an 11,000 pound trailer about 120 miles tommorow.

I think it should be ok if the seal is ok and it's only the lower half. Maybe add some duct tape for good measure.

HTH

AlpineRAM

Hmm.... I guess I never thought of duct tape, or maybe I could use some strong epoxy. I kinda freaked out when it happened and ran right to my computer to call for help. Besides, the big peice that fell out of the bottom should help air flow a little. ;D

Could this be covered under warrenty? The truck only has 7000 miles on it.

I'd use duct tape aand go to the dealer ASAP to get it under warranty- I think it should be covered as long as you didn't mistreat it or have a chrome exhaust tip that voids all your warrantys

If you try to repair it with some epoxy the dealer could get you into troubles ( not qualified rep. attempt )

AlpineRAM

Re:Stock Air Box Cracked

if the crack is pre filter, then the turbo will still get filtered air, so i would think you would be ok

I think I am just goining to forget taking it to the dealer, the local dodge place isnt certified to work on the Cummins trucks, so they will not touch it. I am just going to wait untill Wendsday and get my BHAF.

Thanks for all your input.

I would use Duct tape for the time being. Even if they won't work on it, they should get you one under warranty. Then you will have a good one if need be.

Mike

Marine has a good point, let them at least order a replacement under warranty so you can put it on the shelf for later on should you decide to go back to a stock box

Re:Stock Air Box Cracked

Well, i just spoke with the closest dealer that is cummins certified, the warrenty manager said it would be covered. However, when I ordered the part, the parts manager was a real jerk. Oh well, hopefully they wont try and back out of the warrenty.

Thanks Again,

Matt
