stalling
97 12v longbed xtra cab 4x4 auto trans.I seem to be having a stalling problem. When Ihit thethrottle and let back off, whether it be to leave or get into a parking spot, the truck stalls. It also seems to be idling too low.I would like to turn the idle up,but haven't found the screw to adjust it. Being my first cummins I dont want to just start turning things under the hood and would like some guidance. other than the stalling at low rpm's the truck runs fine.

Re:stalling
Just a word of caution, generally on a second generation 12 valve when the idle slows down too much it is a sign that your timing has slipped.

If you believe your timing is where it should be, the idle adjustment is a bolt that sticks straight up and down on the back of the pump. You will see where it allows the rack control arm (throttle lever) to rest. What ever you do, do not touch the forward adjustment with the safety wire.

Richard:
You may find it difficult to find the throttle stop. The easiest way to get to it is to lie across the front of your truck, worm your hand down between the brake lines, just in front of the fuel shut-off solenoid. You will feel the bolt and the jam nut. It is easiest to adjust with the throttle in WO position. You will need a 10mm wrench.
george

Re:stalling
Richard, low idle will cause what you're experiencing. Your idle rpm should be 750-800 in drive with a/c on. Check the top of idle stop adjustment bolt for a wear groove before adjusting. You may find the adjustment to be very touchy if you have a wear groove. It takes little turning of the bolt and a groove can work against you. A new bolt may be the best approach when the bolt is grooved.

Jerry
