My '90 has the Hex style nut. Trying to go from memory here.

Tighten to 50 lbs. The book does not say to rotate the hub in this step, but I did.

Back off nut, then tighten to 30-40 lbs. Back off 120 degs. Install the washer, then tighten the second nut to 65 lbs.

120 deg seemed a little loose to me, so I backed it off a little less. Tightening the 2nd nut to 65lbs, does stiffen the hub up some though. Again, this is from memory when I did this in November. I can't check my book til tomorrow night to see if it would be different for the other style nut.

Yup, I thought the same, then heard something about the bearings not taking too much torque well, from the lock nut.
