South Bend DD flywheel dosent fit!!!!!
I'm really getting freaking tired of companys constantly sending me there crap that dosent fit and my truck being kept down for weeks insted of days. Now that I got a little ranting out of my system...
I'm trying to put in a 3850# south bend DD clutch. After getting my second one from ups because the first one was crushed I tried to install it. The fly wheel is constantly engaged to the starter gear. The depth from the back of the starter ring gear on the fly wheel to the back of that machined hub that goes over the crank shaft is only 3/16" where on the stock flywheel and the SBC 13" conversion OFE are both 13/16" Can anyone tell me did I do something wrong or is there something I've over looked? Or is this another screw up where I'll have to have my truck down for more weeks while I wait for parts.
Thanks for your help all
Chris

did your instructions tell you to install/remove the starter spacer? call up peter and see what he says
ive installed two DD clutches. On mine i had to leave the spacer, and on my buddies i had to pull it....

yes im installing it the right way. No stupid questions here! Theres only 1 way you can install this fly wheel (or any flywheel)
the instructions say nothing about a spacer for the starter. So I havnt touched my starter at all yet. Perhaps there needs to be a spacer? I'd love to call up peter but he wont be open untill tuesday and by then im royally screwed over. if I dont get the trans in by tomorrow theres 2 more wasted weeks untill I can get help again to put it in.

I'd energize the starter and measure how far forward the gear goes... I'm betting/guessing you'll probably be fine w/ a 6sp spacer. It'd be nice if you could take some measurements and be confident that the spacer will work, then you could start getting the tranny all buttoned up and all you'll lack is the spacer

You need the spacer...I just had my DD rebuilt, and I never had the spacer before, but Peter sent one along with the rebuilt clutch. Apparently he has changed the flywheel design in the 5 years my clutch has been in service
If you can't find it, Peter will make it right...yes, it sucks that is wasn't there, but he'll fix it!
