Safe trans fluid temps

Safe trans fluid temps
I am hoping to get quick response on this. What is optimum trans temp fluid temp for a first gen 518 trans.
I have both coolers, and in the cold months the trans guage rarely gets over 140. If it sits and idles it will rise to 160 an quickly return to 140 or less when moving. The sender is in the pan which I am told is not accurate, it should be put in line somewhere?.
I have in the past disconnected the "bed" cooler and it ran between 170/190. This is a pain reconnecting this tow or summer months.
I am thinking of fabricating a remote operating cover for the "bed " cooler that will prevent air flow when needed.
Am I to concerned over nothing or is this worth the effort??
Thank You Kindly!!

I'm not an expert but: I would think the fluid and the seals would like to see some temp since they are designed to operate in the +190- degree range. Maybe a piece of cardboard with an 8 to 10 inch hole in the center, placed in front of the radiator would help, if a winter front isn't an option.

I personnaly would move the temp sensor to the "hot" line to the cooler. That way you know exactly what your tranny is up too. The pan gets the fluid that has just been through the cooler so it shouldn't be relied on IMO. Not sure on whats a safe temp or not.
