Retrieving codes on 99 2500
Newbie to this great forum. I've searched the archives and can't find an answer, so I thought I'd post to this wonderful group of experts.

I have a check engine light and just want to retrieve codes to see what the source is; however, the three-key-cycle I've seen referenced here doesn't seem to do anything on my '99. I have done the cycle while holding down the trip reset, and this seems to just put the instrument panel into a test cycle. Am I doing something wrong here? Is there some way to get codes as a DIYer?

Thanks in advance

First of all.....Welcome ;D
That was something that came about in the mid '99 model year.
Some can and some cannot. Mine works.
Cycle the key on and off 3 times(don't push the reset ****), it should start the sequence to read the codes.
If not you'll have to find someone with a ODBII scanner to pull out the codes.
