Really loud clanking sound like a helicoptor

I have an 07 Ram with the 5.9. A while ago it starting making a sound like a helicoptor intermitantly. If you couldn't hear it, you wouldn't know anything was wrong. No change in feel, gauges, and no lights. It went away for a while, but then the other day it started again and progressively got louder. Still though aside from the sound it drove like normal. I found that in P,N,D it was there, but shifting into R caused it to stop. Finally the other day while my wife was driving it she said that the check engine light came on and it just died. When she turned it back on the light was off and again drove just fine, but the helicoptor sound was louder than ever. I told her not to drive it any further and it is still sitting right there. Any ideas where to start? Thank you in advance for any thoughts.

I'd check the flex plate bolts but thats just a wild guess.
I dont think the sound (?) and the fact it died are related though. I think they are seperate issues.

Check the wires that come out of the center of the fan clutch. Make sure they are not hitting the fan. Found problem with excessive runout in fan clutch bearing causing fan to hit the harness. Damaged fan, radiator and wiring harness. Had to replace the fan clutch bearing also had excessive runout.

I didn't know what to do, so I dropped it on the dealerships doorstep today. Hopefully not going to bankrupt me.

Let us know what they find, if it is fan clutch wiring make sure they replace the bearing. Dealer replaced 3 fan clutches and still kept doing the same thing. I got the truck and replaced the fan clutch bearing and fixed the problem finally. Fan clutch is #2, fan clutch bearing is #5
