Raptor Fuel pump install

Raptor Fuel pump install
I installed the raptor fuel pump and big line kit today. I can bleed the system including breaking the injector lines and get the truck running for maybe 5 minutes untill it runs out of fuel again. I'm not sure what's goin on. Is there an overflow somewhere that is supposed to go back to the tank? I know the regulator is built into the raptor pump. I had the in-tank warranty lift pump and am pulling fuel through that. Could that be the problem?
Thanks.

Hey JPR,
No I actually had to adjust it to run higher. It will run a little while until the truck empties the filter basket. When I bleed the system at the filter the fuel comes in with bubbles. Do you think because I'm sucking up the fuel through the old lift pump in the tank that I am getting air? What sucks even more is I drove a mile from home and had to get towed back (No tools to bleed fuel) then got home, got it running, went to fill up down the road again and ran it dry AGAIN. This time I took tools to bleed the system on the side of the road. I made it home and parked it. I'm thinking it is either something with drawing fuel through the old in-tank lift pump. The existing fuel lines, Supply and Return, are completly inactive now right? I know the supply is obviously but the return isn't needed either right?

Nope, after doing some more searching I think I'm just sucking air from the tank. I know I have less than a quarter tank of fuel. I think i'll do the draw straw 2 install and get some more fuel in there. Thats the best I can think of.

Hi Zach, I'm cunfused. Is the In-tank pump operating? If not, I think that's your problem. It maybe causing to much of an blockage, just enough to cause air bubbles? Maybe the in-tank pump needs to operate so as to supply the Raptor, which should be adjusted to a lower setting as to not over power the In-tank and cause cavitation?

some pumps will not flow fuel when they are not operating

Hey Zach, how is your fuel pump issue working out? I've been thinking of getting Raptor 100 and piggybacking it on the in-tank pump also. Please let me/us know. James

I got the raptor 150 for 360 on e-bay. It came with the wiring harness and big line kit. I also bought the draw straw 2 from genos. The wiring harness that comes with the Raptor disables the in-tank pump so you need an alternate drawing source. The problem I was having was trying to draw fuel through the old pump without is running, not sure why I thought that would work, especially being an engineer haha. I installed the draw straw last night and the truck runs great. I have the pressure set to 17 psi. When I stomp on it I haven't seen it go below 15 psi. It's a strong well built pump in my opinion with a good warranty. If your not worried about filtration then I think this is the way to go.
Let me know if you have any more questions.

You may have a small leak within the fuel tank. When your old pump was pushing the fuel past the leak, it may have dribbled out of the leak, right back into the tank.
With your new pump pulling the fuel past a leak, it will "siphon" air from it. This would cause poor priming and air in the lines.
Looks like it's time for you to drop the tank, anyhow.
Good luck,
garrett

The raptor has no return line. My probelm was that I was sucking fuel through the old pump without it being on and getting cavitation. I installed the draw straw and its fine now.
Thanks for the input!
