oil in tailhousing

oil in tailhousing
I have a GM NV4500 with a dodge input shaft in it. I fired my truck up fo rthe first time and oil began to weep between the transfer case (Dana 300) and transmission. I have heard that there is not supposed to be oil back there. I have also heard there is supposed to be oil there as the fifth gear is back in the tailhousing. If thats the case I am looking at a seal and not repair an I can get home.
Any help GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks all

Your tailshaft has to have a small amount to sling for 5th gear as well as lubercate tailshaft seal. As long as it is not coming out of tail shaft at the yoke, your in good shape

you may have just overfilled the transmission alittle. If u go up a steep hill for example, the the oil will rush back to the tailhousing of the transmission and some might leak out between the trans and transfercase because theres no gasket or seal there. Don't worry about it, just check ur fluid levels and drive.
If it's ATF fluid from the transfercase, then u have a bearing retainer leak and you'll just need to re-seal that with some RTV and be good to go.
