Your blowing oil past the seal on the exhaust side. Take the intercooler elbow off of the turbo, and see if the compressor side has blown its seal too. There will be oil in the elbow and all in the intercooler.

Yup, that's really the only thing it can be. Besides, you can always trust a Fred! Hopefully you are still under warranty because you're probably going to need a new catalytic converter too.

Or you can take it as a sign from the Diesel gods that all cats must die

2001's didn't have cats.
It is a resonator, not required by any EPA regulations, just there for customer satisfaction, reduces the droan in the exhaust.

Duh...yea, I read that somewhere. Are they essentially a second muffler? I've also heard about the "drone" and I'm wondering if it's also what some refer to as resonance. I've had my exhaust in 3 different configurations in the last 2 months, some that others had complained about drone with. I've heard "growl" when under a load but nothing objectionable. I guess if towing long distance some might call it noisy.

Yup, Drone=Resonance.

Resonator, stubby muffler, named because it removed the offending resonance.

12 valves had cat's, 24 valves didn't need cats due to their burning everything more effenciantly, but they had the same exhaust system, when DC removed the cat the drone appeared, so they put a stubby flow through muffler in where the cat used to be.
