Exclamation Need help, son stuck w/ truck, wont start

truck started fine 45 mins before. stopped at store and won't start now. all lights are on, everything seems normal, then won't turn over, not even a click.

found clutch safety switch wires, could of been cut by being stepped on (when pushing clutch in) or previous owner cut??

can you help us please?

thanks

Jon's mom

ps posted this in 1 & 2nd gen forum also

if the wires are cut they wire them together, and it will start if that's the problem

No click = no energy getting to the solenoid. He could limp it home by connecting a wire to the solenoid input terminal, turning the ignition switch to run, then shorting the lead to the battery + terminal. (I would suggest 14+ guage wire, and gloves. If too low guage a wire is chosen, it could light it's insulation on fire). Disconnect then drive home.

Permanent fix (he may be able to do on the road) is to figure out where the break in the circuit is.

you can do this with a screwdriver, touch the small terminal at the starter to the big one, key in "on" position.

MAKE SURE IT'S IN NEUTRAL!

As this is a manual transmission, have a few hefty guys give him a push, put it in third gear and drop the clutch. Push the clutch in immediatly it fires up.

best fix is jumper the wires at the clutch switch that way he can still start it while in the truck. If you do the solenoid and a screw driver ( pop little wire off, jumper a screwdriver from little post to Big post ) MAKE SURE the truck is in neutral and the e-brake is set. Hate to see anyone get run over!
