Need Help!! Belt Shredded!!!
I've replaced two belts in three weeks on my truck and blew the third one this morning coming to work. Taking for granted everything is in line, what should I look for. Tensioner, alt, what?!?!I'm really frustrated at this and need some desperate help, what do I do? Any help is GREATLY appreciated, thanks. cumminsboy
P.S.- BTW I've been replacing with a Gates belt

If another pulley is a hair out of line(not tensioner), do you think that could contribute too? cumminsboy
P.S.- I'm so thankful to have such a bunch of helpful guru's like yall. Thanks a bunch, and I mean it!!

just a hair outa line shouldnt tear them up that fast. id look at the tensioner or compressor maybe locking up. they should spin with no slop or rough spots. is there and excessive amount of rubber around any certain pully or on one spot on the hood?

About the only thing that can shred the belt is a seized pulley. If you have rubber on the compressor I would guess that is your problem. Remember the compressor turns when the A/C is on or the defroster. Try to turn the outer part of the A/C pulley (closest part to the radiator) and see if it turns easily by hand. It should. The pulley when it is not energized should turn freely also.

Just came home from work and took off the belt, tensioner, and fan pulley. Man, my compressor had belt shavings all in it, I couldn't even get it all of em' out and it looks(to the eye) like my clutch plate is bent also. The pulley will move but only with force(some of old belt still there). All other pulleys turn fine, what do yall think dudes, compressor? Thanks guys, SO MUCH!!! cumminsboy
