miss or surge at boost

miss or surge at boost
I ran into a problem this weekend; looking for some advice before I head to the dealer. My truck runs fine under normal acceleration and highway cruising, (10 lbs boost or less). Under heavy acceleration or climbing steep grades when boost rises closer to 20 lbs and up my truck starts to miss or surge like it's running out of fuel. Is this most likely a problem with the fuel transfer pump? or something else? Could the pump be failing to keep up with the demands of the fuel box? I've had it installed for awhile without any problem, but everytime I got into this weekend and got the boost up it started cutting out? Egt's and other temp were normal.
Any help is appreciated

It sure does sound like a lift pump problem.
Not sure on the part's list, but you can make a simple temporary pressure guage out of stuff found at the local hardware store.
Connects to the shraeder valve on the injection pump.
I'm sure others can help out there, or do a search.

Did the check for codes by cycling the key. It ran through the check and then said PCM Done, No Codes showed up. I'll have access to a fuel pressure gauge tomorrow, but I don't know if it will show anything at idle. I've checked that before and it's usually around 10-12psi.

See if you can put an extension hose on the guage, long enough to tape it to the windshield or somewhere you can see it at WOT and under load (not just flooring it in neutral).
Anything under 8-10 is not good.
Used to be under 10 was the criteria for Dodge to replace it under warranty,
now they do a flow test in addition to the pressure test.

I'll give that a try and see what kind of pressure I'm getting. Guess I be changing my dual guage pod for a triple and adding a FP guage in the future as well. Thanks for the help.

I just wanted to thank you all for the info. I did the pressure checks, 9 psi at idle, less than 4 WOT. Took it to the dealer and got a little bit of the run around as they insisted there wasn't a problem. Thanks to some great info I got from everyone on this website I convinced the manager to check with some other Dodge Diesel mechanics and as a result I now have a new transfer pump, covered under warranty. (Luckily the mechanic didn't see or give me a hassle about the Big Hoss box). Pressure is up to 15-16 PSI at idle and truck runs great. Next project is a Holly Blue
