Miss at idle and White smoke at rpm.

I finally finished removing and replacing the timing cover because of my KDP, and now my truck has a slight miss at idle and a more noticeable miss at higher rpms. Also at higher rpms it blows white smoke. I never engaged the timing pin or pump timing pin when I was r&r the cover, so I think the timing is off. ? It still starts good. I installed a new lift pump as well because the old one's flange was cracked. Another q, has anyone here used a Diesel timing light ? Its a timing light that has a special adapter for your #1 hp line and it connects to your timing light. Can these be used to time our engines ?. Thanks in advance

miss

I would check the inlet to your lift pump and also if you can , run a clear line between the lift pump and the inlet to the injection pump , there was no need to pin the pump or engine if all you did was the block pin assuming you didnt take the nut off the injection pump gear , but it does sound like your sucking air somewhere after putting on the new lift pump. hope that helps
