malfunctioning fuel gauge=nearly killed pump

My fuel gauge on my 01' was not working for a few months now so I chose yesterday to replace it, now the scary part.. the sender was fine, the float was missing. no big deal I figured I will just grab it and toss it. The reason it was missing is because it dissolved!!! there were a hundred million pieces of phenolic debris in my tank, the pick up screen was wasted and I strongly feel if it were not for the pusher I would be shopping for a new fuel SYSTEM! I caution every single ctd owner if you have a gauge issue look at it ASAP! and do not run the tank below 1/2 or so as the debris floats and this keeps it above the pick up screen.

further more use EXTREME caution when you remove the pick up screen, that is a 400.00 filter as you must buy the whole module. I hope this saves at least one person!!

Sounds like someone was giving you the runaround, I've bought the tank screens for about $20.
Lots of dollarships will tell you the sender isn't available separately either .
Have you been using any fuel additives?
I know people who were using Marvel Mystery Oil were having lots of sender problems.

I would be interested in another pickup screen for $20 only fuel adative is stabilizer when it is below zero, and the electrical portion of the sender was working like a top but the float itself was the culprit. the sender was $50 the module it goes in which they claim is the same part# as the screen at around $400 ouch
