Question Lost 3rd and 4th gear in getrag

I was pulling out of a parking lot and went to shift to 3rd but engine just revved, and I didn't go anywhere. I hit 5th and that just blew smoke everywhere. Looks like I'll have to drive the gasser til I find out what's wrong. Can't go anywhere without smokin the clutch or the people behind me, and I'm in a hurry to buy a new clutch. Any ideas what to look for, and ther tools needed. I have a doner getrag about 20 mins away.

Sounds to me like a shifter fork isn't doing what it is supposed to anymore. If you want, pull the top and see.

I took the top off and didn't see any differance since I changed the oil, but I'm new to this stuff and I couldn't get a good view of it. I noticed a buzzing noise when out of gear and clutch released while engine runnin. Mabye its time for a different tranny. I hear thats the noise they make when they go.

are you sure its not the clutch? by the sounds of your original post it seems the clutch is severly slipping in the higher gears. jack the rear wheels off the ground and see what it does. run it in all 5 speeds. if the speed increases with each upshift without gear clunking and grinding the transmission would seem fine. put it in 4th ot 5th gear and get the speed up to 45 mph and drag the brake to slow the wheeels down while you continue to keep the 45 mph on the speedo. if the rpms climb and the speed drops it sure sounds like a toasted clutch.

When I try to shift to 3rd and 4th nothing happens. With clitch pushed or not, nothing there. Just like nuutral in those spots. The clutch is probably going bad after going from 2nd to 5th for 4 days in a row though.
