long post, dont know what to do, please help
I posted on this a few times and now I have no idea. Tech doesnt know either. 2002 dodge, same in signature. Last sep it would start to buck with comp on 5x5 going up a hill. I had the white smoke and the code so I changed out lift pump and IP. I then changed gears at same time. I could only hit 50 psi whereas I was hitting 58 psi before gear swap and IP change. I went from 3.55's (stock TIres)- 4.10's (35's) so my rpms were real close. I thought maybe I just had a weaker pump. I lived with it. Well I really didnt tow much this winter but a few times I could get it to buck or surge around 20 psi. In the 20's. If I gave it some more fuel it would usually get out of the bucking. Couple months ago I pulled more weight and it would do it real bad with comp on 5x5, so I turned it down to 1x1. Not as noticeable but there. Well I got the 0216 code and got a pump under warranty. I didnt put my blue chip cover on in case this pump was junk. Pump builder changed warranty. Well I had comp on 1 and truck would only hit 32 psi. I turned the comp off, and now it hit 35 psi. I kept the truck at wot with comp off and it would stay at 35 with very little smoke if any. While at WOT, I would hit the comp button to turn on and no change whatsoever. Felt like I actually lost boost. Sent comp off the edge to see if bad. Havent heard anything yet. So now the harness is unplugged and no box. Hook up to the new camper which weighs 13000 lbs. Thing bucks like crazy in the 20 -30 psi range. I post on here and everyone says apps. So I check wire with voltmeter and adjusted apps. I was at .452 and was supposed to be at .504. I got it to .508 and said it was close. Still no help. My ecm was replaced 4 months ago because I had a code for my map sensor and iat which I cleaned 3000 miles ago. Map sensor is 8 months old. My fuel pressure at idle is 23 psi and 13 wot. I changed fuel filter 2000 miles ago. I finally take it into the dodge dealer and talk to the service manager. He tells me it may have the pressure, but maybe not the volume. They flow test it today and say it is better then what is required. Say the problem is not the flow or psi. They want me to get a trailer and duplicate how it happens. I get an 8000 lb camper from my buddy and we go driving. Remember, I have no comp box or any box, just mach 4's. We start pulling and I can hit 45 psi. Truck runs great. With that much boost I can hit 1300 degrees max. We are driving around and I get ****** because it is running right. He has his computer hooked up the whole time. So we are cruising and I punch it again and all I can hit is 35 psi and it almost feels like it is stuttering. Stuttering really isnt the word, but you can tell it aint running strong. All I can hit now with 35 psi is 1100 degrees. So now with trailer in tow, I have it wot at 2200 rpms with the brake on to make it work and all of a sudden the boost jumps up to 50 psi and the egt's hit 1300 without letting off or changing anything when it was 35 psi. Just got a surge and ran great. Then it runs strong for a bit, then it only goes to 35 psi again. All during this we get no codes or anything. My guage is showing the exact psi his computer is showing, but his has 14.7 psi more for the atmospheric. I have no boost fooler on my truck. I always used the comp. So we get back to the shop and check the wastegate with air. It opens and closes with compressed air. We pinch the line and go for another ride. Same thing. Only thing is the truck really doesnt buck or surge like it does with my bigger camper on it. If I dont have the comp on, shouldnt I throw an overboost code? What else should I look at? I have way too much money in this truck. I am very close to stripping things off and sell truck. Please, any help. I am going crazy.
