locked out????

Ive got what I hope is a simple problem here guys. When I went to leave for work this morning I hit the unlock button on the remote and went to open my door, came to find out that it unlocked every door BUT the drivers.

No matter what I do I cant unlock it, key wont turn in the lock, remote wont work, auto locks wont open it, neither will pulling up on the ****. The only way to open the door is to pull up on the handle, it stays locked as soon as you close it however.

any ideas??? Its really annoying to have to climb over the passengers seat to open my door. Luckily I have a remote, otherwise Id be screwed, since dodge only put one actual lock on the truck

Thanks for any help
Jeff

I think if you remove the door panel, you'll discover the problem. Probably the clip that holds the locking pin in place has came loose. The loose rod probably fell and wedged between the key lock cam and part of the door.

I just got off the phone w/ the dealer and he said the same thing you did nat. Too bad they claim they cant fit me in till late tom .

How much of a pain is it to remove these door panels? Ive done it on my 2000 but not on this one yet. Do you have to buy that clip?

thanks again
Jeff

No you don't have to replace the clip (unless it's broken). You should be able to reclip the clip and be on your way. But I think I would tie-wrap (or bread tie wrap) something around that clip to keep it from happening again.
It's not hard to remove the door panel, all the screws are visible then you just slide it up toward the top of the window, it has hooks molded into the back side of the door panel that fits slots in the door.

I'd just let the dealer do it since its most likely under warranty. A buddy of mine just broke a little chunk off of his sister's door panel trying to get it off. This way if it cracks or brakes its on their dime.

I've replaced two door latches for that very same problem. Something internal in the lock mechansim bound up. The new DR body door panels are much more user friendly than the BR/BE panels.

When I got my 89 the door locks were jammed. It has power door locks and both motors were rusted solid. The door speakers were bad also and it appears the truck had been in a flood. I was able to get one motor working but the other was a goner so I left the motor out. Doors now lock the conventional way. It's odd that it was designed such that there was no slop in the linkage to allow manual operation.

Edwin

BTW, I'm looking for a used right door motor.
