I have 99 Dodge and a few times last month while driving the engine just died to an idle but picked up right away. A few days ago it did the same but now stays there. A day prior to this I lost the alternator, not charging. I fitted a new one but the same thing. The manifold heaters are stuck on so I disconnected them so I could continue working (I am far in the bush). I have lost the temp gauge and oil press gauge. I have changed the throttle position unit and have a new pump on stand-by but with all this going on I am thinking the main computer. Has anyone else had this happen? I don't want to dig too deep if it's something simple.

 

Mine did that several times but only for a sec or two . i took the apps apart as much as i could and cleaned all the connections on it It stopped the problem . If that doesnt fix it then it sounds like the apps has gone out thats my opinion

 

Boy, that don't sound like fun... . I guess I would be like you and suspect the computer. Did you try the key on, key off thing and see if you are getting any codes? You might need to get the codes scanned. Is there an Autozone or Pep Boys or some other auto parts store close? Most will scan the codes for free. Keep us informed.

I will try some more cleaning. The computer is a week away. No I didn't get a service engine light and I can't check the codes. So far from anywhere you wouldn't believe. Will keep you posted.
