Its dying....Miss and no power
My trucks been having tons of problems lately
FIrst, it died a couple weeks ago b/c it started leaking fuel. Dealer replaced the lines and new fuel module to the tone of $1400.
now, my fuel cap is spewing fumes. It ran good when i got it back from the dealer, but also started hard soemtime, especially when faced uphill.
Three days ago, it started missing at above 1800 rpms....and its gotten worse, much worse.
Now i have much less power, and it misses continuously. I can put the p[edal to the floor and it doesn't really respond. I drove it this morning, and i'm not sure i can get the truck above 40mph....this is about 2.5 weeks after i picked it up at the dealer.
I called the dealer 3 dys after pickign it up regarding the fuel fumes out of the tank cap. They took it in, and siad i had a high pressure return line. They were going to check into the injectors to see if anythings going wrong in there, but i said hold off, cuz i can't afford another bill like that.
My big fear is the vp44, which was replaced at about 75k, and it has 104k on it now. the vp44 has a 12,000 mile, 12 month wareenty on it, so thats out of the question. I have no guages on the truck, but expect the fuel pressure from the lift pump to be ok, since it is new (i think that comes with the new fuel moduel they installed two weeks ago)
anyways, I just want to get the truck fixed up and sell it.
Let me know what you think or what to investigate.
edit to add (before someone asks) 99 24v.

GreenMachine:
The first thing I would do is check that fuel pressure!! Hook the gauge up to the fuel pressure test port on the top of your fuel filter canister. You should have 10-14lbs. at idle and it should never get below 5-8lbs under hard throttle. The next thing I would do is have a Dodge Technician plug their DRB Scanner into your port inside the truck to see if you have any codes in either the ECM or PCM units. There are several codes related to the VP-44, IMO the worst being the dreaded #0216 code. Also, have you changed your fuel filter lately?
That is where I would start.

Without know what your fuel pressure is my bet is the IP is going bad. There have been many case of bad LP right out of the box. I had two. Pull codes at a parts store (they usually do it for free) and see what comes up.
I have to say (not trying to throw salt in the wound) but the dealer took you for a ride.
Get a cheap 1/8 NPT 0-30 PSI guage and mount it in the port on your fuel filter to see what fuel pressure you have.
Sorry you are having problems man.

fuel problems
Just spoke to dodge dealer and was told that a new system is in place regaurding an in tank fuel dilivery system much like a gas in tank fuel pump. I have no idea how it will work but the dealer told me that he has no lift pumps in stock and that if that is what I wanted I would have to purchase it after market. The price was 408.50+ tax the Fass system in AZ is about 595.00 or 600 and change with the tax. Im just preparing for mine to go out probobley the Fass system is where Ill go. Any suggestions?? Green and JP are right on the money - you should check the fuel pressure before you start swapping new pumps or parts into the truck....not sure what the dealer-installed "fuel module" is or why it was $1400????
The dealer put an in-tank fuel pump into a '99? This is a FIRST, as far as I've heard! So, do you now have a "pusher" (in-tank) pump, as well as the LP? Sounds like a real cluster....
If you DO have fuel pressure issues, the FASS system - pump only, or pump with the filtration - is certainly a solid set-up, many people tout the Walbro as well. Mid-$500's for the full FASS set-up seems about right...
