Unhappy Intermittent Loss of Power and Check Engine Light on

While driving in to work this morning, I experienced a loss of power on my truck. At first, I just thought my auto trans did not down shift while driving up a small incline, so I manually down shifted, and I still did not have any power. Immediately my check engine light turned on, and I slowly climbed up the hill. After driving a couple of minutes, my power seemed to be fine. All my gauges did not show any problems. Boost was fine, oil pressure, EGT, no excessive smoke no visible problems. As I drove, I kind of remembered this intermittently happening once in a while for about 3 weeks already, I'd just floor the gas pedal, and it would eventually build power, and then be fine. This happens mainly a few minutes after I start driving. It's not consistent, so I'm not exactly sure what to do. Once, it gets over this initial power struggle, the truck runs fine. Unfortunately, I'm not a mechanic and have no clue what to do. I just know I don't want to go to the dealer and have them sock it to me. Please help me out...
I just replaced my fuel filter, and my oil filter is clean.

Take your truck to an auto parts store that willl scan your truck for trouble codes. Once you get the codes look them up and it might help you narrow the problem search. I don't know, but, it kinda sounds like you just might come up with the dreaded code p0216. Hopefully someone who knows more than I do will chime in and help.
Good Luck

Thanks MNTOM. I appreciate your feedback. I just talked to someone in Gale Banks, and they told me it sounds like my Map Sensor, or their Otto Mind computer is acting up. They are going to be scheduling an appointment for me to take it in to their shop. I'll keep everyone posted on the results as soon as I find out more information. Can you describe or explain that code you mentioned. I have no clue what that is. Thanks again.

It's the kiss of death code for the VP 44 injection pump(read extremely expensive fuel pump). Your symptoms sound exactly like a dying VP44.

Thanks, BB. I am glad I didn't have to give him the bad news.
