Installing a liftpump on 12v

I am trying to reinstall the new liftpump on my 12v and the pos will not go in far enough to get the bolts started. Do I need to turn the engine over slightly to change the cam profile or what?

That might help, but you still have to shove against the spring a little even when you're down on the base circle of the cam.

Thanks for the reply, I took my own advice and bumped the engine alittle and it went in, I guess you have to be smarter than what your working on
