Injector pump blues
I have a 2002 RAM 3500, the lift pump went down on it about two months ago, i replaced it and had a very hard time getting the truck started had to hold the pedal to the floor, but it did run for about five weeks then quit in the middle of the road. So last weekend, i replaced the injector pump and now it is hard to start after sitting and feels weak as well as not black smoking, it has always black smoked alot up until, replaced the injector pump i knew i should have bought a duramax LOL any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.

First off Welcome to the DTR!!!!!!
Now do you have a FP gauge? Did you replace the LP as well as the VP44? They usually go hand in hand when doing this job.
You really need to know as well as us what the LP is doing. If it isn't working the VP44 will have a very short life. Are there any codes?
Like Wild4dst8 said check all that stuff too.

Don't know about your 02 but if it has a rail pressure relief valve check it also. My 04.5 did exactually what youa re describing and it was the relief valve stuck open and I could not generate enough rail pressure to fire the injectors. Had 4 valves replaced in 20K miles so I became quite knowledgable about this failure. Another reason I no longer have that 04.5.

YES I REPLACED THE CHECK VALVE. I JUST WENT AND BOUGHT A FUEL PRESSURE GAUGE TODAY AND IT SEEMS TO HAVE ABOUT 11 POUNDS OF FUEL PRESSURE AT IDLE, BUT @ W O T IT HAS ABOUT 4 OR 5 POUNDS... aND IF IT MATTERS IT HAS AN EDGE BOX UNDER THE HOOD AND A SUPER CHIPS PROGRAMMER.. THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP..I AM READY TO SEND THIS TRUCK OVER THE EDGE OF THE MOUNTAIN..
