Injector failed... dealer has me by the nutz

The dealer says $612 for injector replacement.............. seems rediculous.
For that price they should swap them all out with new ones.

Am I getting hosed?

I think so!!!
I bought a set of six RV275's for under $300 Canadian and it took me 1.5 hours to install, and I had not done them before.
But then why do they call them the five star *******???

$600 for ONE injector?? Are they INSANE?? That price MUST for a set.

Push the truck out of the shop, order some injectors and install them on his lot when they arrive. The service manager will LOVE you.

Ok...so are they quoting you a price for a factory injector(s)....and if so, how much? I believe a 5013848AA is in the $120.00-$130.00 range. Book time on r/r is 2.1 hr for all six, .7 for #2 only, or .5 each for any xcept #2. Is the price including diag for an issue, or did you just drive in and say " I want #X injector changed"....Tracking down an issue with a single injector on a VP 24 valve engine can be a bit time consuming.

Question

I dropped the truck off and told them it was smoking horribly and sounded bad. They called and said #1 injector was leaking and needed to be replaced.

I just picked the truck up and got there too late to talk to the service advisor. My receipt says...

They qouted me $95.00 to diagnose the problem when I dropped it off. Isn't this usually waved when they do the repair work?

Found #1 injector leaking
Replaced #1 injector, set valve lash to factory specs.

1 R5023848-AA Injector $156.68
1 5016356-AB Vavle Gasket $75.33
1 R5023848-AA Core Return -15.00 TOTAL PARTS $217.01
TOTAL LABOR $380.00

total $597.01

ok.... so when they state " Set Valve Lash", that means setting ALL the valves? ---------> I am not too internal engine savy so go easy on me.

Also.... I hear a ?rumor? that once your first injector goes, they all will follow suit? All except for the one replaced today are stock with 140k on them.
SHould I just get a whole new performance set?

"setting valve lash" would include all of them, and at that mileage they were due. I recently called a vendor and new RV275 injectors (common upgrade) were $400.00. Personally I've only replaced a couple of injectors in VP equipped 24 valve trucks. Not that common for them to fail. Nine times out of 10 "smoking horribly and sounds bad" would be an injection pump.

So it sounds like I lucked out once again.
