Injection pump help needed...

Well I'm now getting at least 14psi on my fuel pressure gauge after changing the lift pump. I'm only getting this pressure after cycling and bumping the engine. The truck is not running as it died which is why I changed the lift pump to see if that was the problem. What can I do to test the injection pump? The only code I have is 1693. Please help. James

When my vp44 went south I did the turn the key on 3 times thing. I got the 1693 code and I quit. I should have left it on until it finishes. I cycles through 2 tests. A pcm and an ecm or something like that. Before you quit the code look-up make sure its finished reading them

It just reads the 1693 code and either the PCM or ECM (cant remember which without doing it again) and then done.

I dont know any way of checking pressure but loosen a fuel line or two and see if there is fuel coming out. Also this maybe redundent but you could check your fuel filter.
Good luck...Jay...

Fuel filter is new...If I crack a line or two and try to start it, I would imagine fuel would come out of the line pretty strong, correct?

Yeah, break open #1 and #3 with a 19mm wrench. If you get a good spray I would say the VP is at least alright, a dribble and it's toast.

It has been my experience with these trucks that when they don't start it is almost always fuel related. Sorry, but it sounds like your VP has said farewell.

Code 1693 should be a bad VP44
