HELP - Ran it dry of fuel . . . I think
Wouldn't you know it . . . the first frigin' thing I do after switching over from gas is to run this truck dry of fuel. Was running down the road about 60 and I knew I was low on fuel (light had been on for about 50 miles or so) but the gauge on the electronic display said I had 47 miles left so I thought I was all right. All of a sudden the vehicle just lost power completely. I glided onto the shoulder. I put about 4 gallons in it and tried turning the key to prime it and it didn't start (duh). Also tried bleeding through the little valve on the fuel pump. I got good fuel out of it. Also pumped the little lever on the fuel filter and got fuel out of it . . . is this a ran out of gas problem or a you're screwed problem? Any help on what's wrong and how to fix it would be much appreciated!!! If you all think it's run out of fuel what's the best way to fix it? Had one guy tell me that I'll have to take each line out and bleed them individually. Had another guy tell me to spray WD40 in the air intake?! HELP PLEASE

I put about 4 gallons in it and tried turning the key to prime it and it didn't start (duh). Sometimes you may have to let the lift pump prime the system more than once. Also tried bleeding through the little valve on the fuel pump. Good sign but make sure you tighten evrything back up good. Don't want to suck in anymore air. Also pumped the little lever on the fuel filter and got fuel out of it . . Again a good sign that the lift pump is operating. May not be great but you have some PSI anyway. You should be able to hear the lift pump humming and get no less than 8 psi out of it. If you don't have the 8 psi, your lift pump is dying or you have a restriction. Had one guy tell me that I'll have to take each line out and bleed them individually. Had another guy tell me to spray WD40 in the air intake?! HELP PLEASE
I would not spray stuff in mine but i would bleed the injector lines. I think you can get away with just one or two of the lines though. Lots information using the search button at the top of this page on fuel issues. MAP sensor and a few others will also do this too yuh and would be my next step.Good luck and God Bless

Duck Hunter,
I did the same thing.
I will try to send you the thread of what and how I was able to get it going again.
I ended up cracking the #1 and #3 injector lines, turning over till clear fuel, no bubbles, and she fired right up.
If you do not get the thread it was in the "Help" forum a couple of weeks ago, author, JerryB4

Dont listen to the "tip" about WD40.... ???
Is your lift pump working??? Can you hear it when you cycle the key??
Ill try and find the link for bleeding the fuel lines.......you'll have to bleed each one.......
I try to never let my truck get under a 1/4 tank....especially when its cold....

DuckHunter,
Don’t trust the computer, ever. I had it happen to me also (as Dr. Evil said never let it go below ¼ tank again) If you’re good at the fuel filter then should just be a matter of popping your injectors. Just make sure do it one at a time, worse case scenario you should only have to do three. Good luck
