Help! Gear oil found in PS pump

I am in need of help, I was going to tow one of my jeeps home and when I stopped for fuel I checked the fluid levels and found green gear lube in the PS pump, Can I drive this thing home without hurting anything? Anyone know what might be the problem? I appreciate any help I can get.

The most frequent source of green lube is through the use of a universal hydraulic fluid in the power steering. Actually, if that has happened it is better fluid than Dodge came with. There is no where the power steering fluid can become contaminated with any other oils outside of human intervention.

I would drive it if the fluid runs OK and does not foam. Then change it to whatever you are comfortable with when you get the time. There is no magic about power steering fluid, for the most part it is a cheap form of 10-30 motor oil with an anti-foaming agent added. That is why I use the Cenex universal hydraulic fluid and never have any problems at all.

Thank you, Is it possible water could be introduced into the system, I wouldn`t have discovered the problem if I had not lost the steering. I think I will attempt to flush the system and refill with a good power steering fluid.
