GASOLINE IN TANK ???

let my friend drive my new 2003 dodge 3500 4x4 dually 6spd last night.

i got inthis morning and noticed an extended crank time, and smoke at 2000 rpm.

drove to work, then at lunch went to move the truck, and it did the same thing. anyhow i bought a new fuel filter, it did not help. so off to the dealer i went.

turns out my friend pumped in 28 gallons of gasoline.

now, how do i get the fuel out? i have tried siphoning, but it actslike there is a screen in the inlet to the tank.

btw, this truck i bought last sunday with 6 miles, and it only has 1411 now.

thanks in advance, chris

Re:GASOLINE IN TANK ???

Chris,
Sorry to hear about your trouble. I have been there also.
I have a first gen truck so it may not be the same as the third gen trucks. The first gen trucks have a restrictor "ball" in the filler hose connection that goes to the tank. I took the filler hose off at the tank and then was able to siphon the mixture out.

Oh man, sorry to hear about that! The dealer couldn't get it out for you? Will that void your warranty? Bet you will not let anyone borrow your CTD again? Sorry again to hear about that.

Re:GASOLINE IN TANK ???

talked to the service manager about it, and he said that i am not even in the computer as having shown up, they just had the mechanic walk out to my truck with his tester equipment, and when he found out that it was gas in the tank, he said to just get it out of there.

i asked him about some other service issues ( bad pull to the right, etc.) he said get the gas out, then we will work on the rest of it. i asked both him and the service guy, they both said that "i was never there"

guess i got lucky, chris

That is cool they did that for you Chris. I wouldn't go back there until you have got the gas out. Did you get it out? Man I could only imagine how your stomache felt when you found out there was that much gas in there. I have heard of that happening a lot though.

Re:GASOLINE IN TANK ???

The major problem that you're going to have is disposing of 35 gallons of
"Hazardous Material".

That's probably why the dealer said "You were never here." :

Good friend ya have there - precisely why Im always reluctant to lend my possessions out.

One way or another you need to drain the tank. You may have to end up dropping the tank - which shouldnt be too hard - Sit tight, Im sure that someone more familair with the 03's will have an answer for you. Good Luck !!

Re:GASOLINE IN TANK ???

well, we ahve the tank dropped, and fixing to dispose of the fuel ( it is gonna go into my farm truck).

actually the mechanic offered to drain it for 2 hours labor (160.00) and i declined. however after messing with this for about 3 hours now, and tinking like gas, i would gladly pay twice what i was quoted.

chris

ps, i also asked the service guy about my running straight pipes, and what it does for warranty etc, he said "heck, it prolly makes it run better than stock"

Re:GASOLINE IN TANK ???

After you get all the fuel out and replace it with diesel I would highly recomend running a couple tanks of fuel treatment and injector cleaner through your engine. Just some advice, you should use it once in a while anyway but I would in this case if you don't usually! Hope it helps...a little

Re:GASOLINE IN TANK ???

DIESEL FUEL IN A TANK MAKES A VAPOR CONDITION THAT IS TO LEAN TO BE READILY COMBUSTIBLE. GASOLINE IN A TANK MAKES A VAPOR CONDITION THAT IS TO RICH TO BE READILY COMBUSTIBLE. DIESEL AND GAS TOGETHER IS A HIGHLY VOIATILE MIXTURE.......BE CAREFUL

Re:GASOLINE IN TANK ???

thanks for all the tips guys.

i put a 5 gallon can of diesel in last night, then went and put in some marvel mystery oil and filled it with diesel. i looked for some other additive, but the only place open was autozone.

so far the truck seems fine.

now, i just need to get the alignment corrected and get another mudflap ( one fell off after 1 week of driving).

Re:GASOLINE IN TANK ???

The other way to get the fuel out is to go under the truck disconnect the fuel line hook up some kind of hose and pump setup and suck it out into a can. Wash it with 5 gal of diesel and suck it out again. Use the old mix in the wifes car every one will think you got a smoken hot diesel car
