Died while accellerating, no firing up now.

99 ram 24v, 4x4 5spd
I replaced the fuel pump about 4 months ago.

(may or may not matter) : I went over a speedbump coming out of a food place, kinda hit hard. Proceeded to accellerate smoothly (about 2000 rpm shifts), and hit 3rd and made it to about 35mph then the truck just shut off.

Cranks over healthy but not firing up.

I cracked the drain on the fuel canister and fuel came out.

Fuel pressure gauge when turning the key on will shoot up to around 9psi then fall off quickly.

before i coulda swore itd go up to about 14psi and hold for a second or two then go down slowly.

Any ideas on where to start?

Engine/Check gauges lights are not on.

Hope it's something simple......
Cracking the injector line open should tell the tale.
But that describes exactly the circumstances when my Injection pump croaked 3 days after Christmas.
On the plus side, I now have a HRVP-44, and I got towed home by an International Roll-Back.

That is funny! Shovel is like the VP-44 grim reaper.

"Whereever he post, the VP dies.........."

I had the same luck.
I read everyone else's Dead VP posts for about two weeks........then mine went toes up.
As soon as it happened, as I was coasting to the side of the road, I turned to Wifey and said, "The injection pump just croaked, we need a tow truck. Where's your cellphone?"

Timmay, How many miles on your truck?

mine did the same thing just after christmas, pouring the coal to her and then nothing just dead, no light in the dash, scanned it anyway and got the injector pump code, just got a new pump and made a short distance on a test run and boom it just died, again no CEL but scanned it again and po252 was there, but we are still working on it. feels like i own a powercroak.

You had the injector pump go twice in a row?

Is there some other issue that causes these to go that everyones just not recognizing.. over/under voltage, etc?

If mines confirmed to be a VP44 im going to get the hot rod model, heard those arerent "quite" as failure prone. The extra HP is nice too.

the first one was a mechanical code failure"233,000miles can't complain to much bout that". can't remember which one po251 i think, the second one po252"timing, releaf valve something like that code", I think it was a bad reman job by the company, it was a HRVP.

FUEL!! Theres fuel at the injector!!!

The question is though, how much should be? I was expecting quite alot to come out, i guess its mostly shooting down into the cylinder, the most i could seperate the tube from the hold in the head was to rest it on the oring, with the hole mostly blocked off though, and the valve cover galley is wet with diesel...

so this is good, that there is fuel coming out of these lines.. but is it possible its not enough?

What else is there to check for no start / no check engine light with fuel present at the injector line.

Here it happens again.

LP replacement, then injection pump goes out.

The injection is pumping fuel, but at near zero pressure because it cannot control it's timing, therefore not opening up the solenoid to inject fuel.

You have a P0216 code without a CE light.

Why does the VP44 go out? Lack of fuel, or hot fuel.

Sometimes, but not always,

My fuel pressure gauge was showing 15 psi when the Injection pump croaked.
In 85,000 miles it has never been below 8 psi with the engine running, and the fuel tank is very rarely run lower than 1/2 tank.
