Delivery Valve Washer

I am going to retime my truck today or tomarrow, and the TSB instructions say to use a new delivery valve washer. I called dodge just in case, and they said the washer was $18! That is just nuts. Is it really necessary?

Matt, I don't know if this is the right answer, but, when I did mine, I re-used the washer. When I did mine again (yea, I screwed it up the first time) I re-used it again. Neither time did I over torque the DV either. I got it just tight enough so that it didn't leak.
