Carpet wet after heavy rain on std. cab

After about a week straight of rain I noticed my carpet around the storage tray in the back was wet on both sides of my truck. The rear window doesn't have any water spots on it so I'm assuming that seal is ok, I searched and a lot of guys were having trouble with their 3rd brake light gaskets. Come to think of it I remember seeing water in it last time I washed it, but most people said that if it's the 3rd light leaking the passenger side floorboard gets wet. My floorboards are dry its just the corners in the back on each side around the tray. Could a leaky 3rd brake light dampen that area also? And if thats my problem can I just go to napa and buy some gasket sheets and rtv and make my own gasket to seal it?

To answer your questions: Yes, yes and yes.

The 3rd brake light can leak and run down the seam in the cab. Sometimes it will go to the floorboards, other times it can run right down into the tray behind the seat.

You can buy a new gasket from Dodge, but most recommend just using silicone. I have done this and have had pretty good luck with staying dry so far.

Good luck!

I siliconed mine up today. I traced the gasket with clear rtv then re-installed Hopefully that'll take care of it.

Do you have a rear slider or full window?

My rear slider was leaking. I also had leaks at the driver's side of the windshield. I removed seats and carpet. Had the wife shower the truck with a garden hose. This allowed me to seal all leaks. It also allowed the interior to completely dry and I steam cleaned the carpet while it was out.

Also added some sound insolation. As a driver I couldn't tell a difference. Rear passengers could tell the difference in noise.
