Can't pull with bully dog.....turbo shutter!
I am out in Colorado and I can't pull with my bully dog installed. I am only pulling on setting one with about a 5000lb enclosed trailer. When the truck shifts from 3 to 4th at about 50mph the turbo makes a hell of a shutter. It started off small and is getting worse. The turbo will also act up if it is lugged in overdrive pulling up hills. I have started to notice that it will do it between 2 and third, but not near as often as between 3rd and 4th. I finally turned the overdrive off when pulling in the hills because it will shutter every time between third and forth. When I hit the flat ground I can ease it into overdrive and not get the sutter, but if I am on it alittle bit it will start acting up. If I am on it really hard it will not make the shutter noise. It seems to only do it when I am at about half throttle. I am home now and have uninstalled the bully dog completely and I can't seem to get the turbo to make the shuttering noise. I love the chip and it sucks to pull without it, but I don't like the noise I am hearing from what I think is the turbo. I have an 06 auto, with a aem brute force intake. The rest is stock. Any one have any ideas on the matter?

Are you shure its the turbo and not the torque converter? Just makin shure. What does your boost do durrring this process and egts? We go an 06 with bd triple dog but its a 6 sp, no probs. The stock turbo shoulnt be surging. Check what those numbers are doin and get back.

I hate to tell you this but I don't have gauges yet. It's such a pain taken all that crap out when you go in for warranty work. I know it can save your truck and they are really nice to have. I had all the gauge stuff in my 02 duramax and dreaded taking the stuff out when I needed work done.

Will the TC lock up right away when the truck shifts into overdrive? Will it make a shuttering sound when it is not happy? Now that you say it it could be the TC, but I don't have trained ears like a mechanic so I am not sure.

They can still bone you with the chip your running even if you take it out. Most dealers will still do warranty work if you have a set of mechanical gauges in there. Id rather be able to see whats happening and control it better with gauges, than burn it up take your chip out and then get boned for the warranty work because the checked the paramiters in the ecm and pcm and find them exceeding stock levels. Its hard to determine the proble with out the help of some gauges or being there. Post it up in the 3rd gen preformance and acc forum to more ppl will see it that can help you.

if you haven't already, you might try pulling the silencer ring... a little extra flow around the MWE slot can aleviate some surging issues.
but man, you REALLY need gauges... I'm a little more liberal than some when it comes to running gauges. I mean, I run them on my truck, but guys who run a mild setup and don't tow anything, I say you can run without gauges if you don't stay in it too hard too long, but towing? ouch man... easy way to throw away $8k on a new engine

I thought the dealer could not recognize that I had a chip in with the bully dog, if I returned it to stock. I thought it would rest the computer back to stock levels and clear the higher horse pwr and torque readings. If the bully will not clear the computer of high readings, what chip/programmer will?

Sounds like your TC. Recommend putting it back to stock and pulling without it.... if it still does it, it's not the BDDL, if it was your turbo, you'd probably either hear a loud squeel or grinding if it's kaput.

Turbo Bark
What you are hearing is what is called Turbo Bark! The automatics do not have any way of relieving Boost Pressure when shifting gears and when the truck goes into 4th from 3rd that is way higher gear than 3rd and this causes all that boost that you have built up in third to rush back against the impellar blades and almost stop them from turning. This is hard on the stocker and will reduce the lifespan of it...... The best bet is to either baby it while accelerating or just go for it until you get into O/D. Use the O/D Lockout while in hilly areas.....and slow down...............Just one of the reasons I traded the 06 auto in for the manny!!!
