blown slave cyl. seal after clutch install/need help asap
I have a '96 1 ton. Replacing the clutch and after bolting transmission up and after hooking up slave cylinder, the clutch pedal was very hard to push. Pushed a little more and it blew the seal on the slave cylinder. Anyone have any ideas on what could have caused this? Checked with the Dodge dealer and they recommend replacing the whole hydraulic master cylinder/slave cylinder assembly which is $377.00! Parts store has a slave cylinder by itself but is it possible to hook this up to the original line? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Update: Removed transmission to see what was going on and found the release fork was off of the pivot ball causing it to bind. This time after placing the fork back on the ball with the spring clip I used the advice of a previous post and used wire to hold it in place by running it through the transmission mount bolt holes until the input shaft was in the release bearing. This worked great. Also put the transmission in gear and turned the output shaft and it went in a lot easier this time. Now all that needs to be done is replace the slave cylinder.
