Unhappy Black Smoke P0237 & P1697 codes

I have a 99 3/4Ton 4x4 that all of a sudden started blowing black smoke. I checked the codes and had a P0237 and a P1697. I have replaced the Turbo Boost Sensor(MAP) and replaced the fuel filter which was filthy. Neither of those took care of the problem. I just purchased this truck about a month ago and it was running great. The truck starts up fine and will run fine with a little smoke if I take it out of over drive. Otherwise it has no pick up power when pulling a hill. Could it be the PCM or the waste gate on the turbo? I can hear the turbo.

I figured it out.

The Intercooler Boot on the turbo did not have a good seal. Now I know where to look for a sudden loss of power.

solution

I ran my fingers all the way around all of the boots and the one that was coming out of the bottom of the turbo had ballooned out on the bottom. I would check both sides of the intercooler.(driver/pass) I would take the boot off that came loose and replace it or take a brake parts cleaner and clean the boot and the flange that the boot attaches to be for replacing it. I put it back on the first time without cleaning it and it slipped off again. Since I have cleaned it it has not come off.

I had the first boot after the turbo blow 2 times in 1 month. Once the boot blows it stretches it out and want stay on. I ordered a new set of boots and clamps from Piers Friday. These are the boots most here are replacing with. From what I have read they seam to hold up very well, better then stock even under high boost. Here is a link to Piers if you don't have it.
