Any Dodge/Cummins Tech/Reps out there? NEED INFO! 2006 Diesel broke 1st day I got it

IF ANYONE HAS ACCESS TO DEALER BULLETINS, PLEASE LET ME KNOW THE TRUTH ABOUT THIS ISSUE IF YOU CAN. Any info, including bulletin numbers, dates and whatever else would be GREATLY appreciated. I am going back to the dealer to straighten this out on tuesday, april 4th.

I just bought a fully loaded 2006 Dodge Ram 4x4 with a cummins and the 6 spd stick, (I DO NOT WANT AN AUTO). It was BRAND NEW and over $40k, with 47 miles on it when i test drove it. I iook it home last saturday, IT BROKE DOWN that night. I had it towed in monday, was told the primary in-tank pump was bad. So i said, "OK 150 miles on a new truck, anything is possible". I was going to pick it up again thursday when it was supposed to be ready, and there was my truck on the side of the road. Broken down fduring the test drive after it was "fixed". I demanded another truck, but of course there are NO stick diesels to be found anywhere within 1000 miles. Plus I want a black 4-door long-bed 4x4, NO Compromises!

I was told there was a service alert on all diesels, something about bad fuel at the factory, and the roll-over valve needs to be replaced, and this pertains to ALL diesels they have on the lot. Well, i took a fuel sample when it first broke, it was clean, and W.T.F. does a roll over valve have to do with bad fuel. I am hearing conflicting stories from the dealer as to what the problem is, and if it was bad fuel, I am not accepting a truck that was damaged from day 1.

They offered me another truck, but they only have autos, plus supposedly they all need to be checked! I am most likely going to order a new truck and wait the 8 weeks. If, or more like when the dealer fights me on doing so, I want them to catch them in a lie, then unload on them with the facts. So far, it seems they like to use terminology and confuse the customer with some BS story, I played along so far. My dad is a 40 year GM tech, I was a mechanic for many years, (gas & diesel), and I am a mechanical engineer now, so they dont know who they are dealing with.

I'm not going to slam Dodge or the dealership yet, but if this situation is not straightened out, I'll give out all the info. PLEASE give me any info you may have. Especially bulletin numbers and detailed info. If this a legitimate problem, and it has been corrected, i may accept the truck, as long as they compensate me.

THANKS FOR ANY HELP YOU CAN GIVE.

It was in NJ, so the lemon laws are pretty good, so i am not worried. Its 3 failed tries for the same repair within 2 years or 18k miles, or in the shop 20 days total in the same time frame. They tell me tuesday, its already 10 days. Plus, i never even made it home, and i would think a $40,000 truck should at least do that!

It was either a new truck or a new boat, I went with the truck. Maybe i should have gone with the new 22 foot Dual Console? My 94 Dodge/Cummins 5-spd with 180k miles still runs great, glad i didn't trade it in and still have it!!!!

Hello DTR, This is my first post and Wanted to say Hello and what a great site. Now I would appreciate any help with my problems ??????????????????????

Welcome to DTR and sorry to hear your having trouble with a new truck, hope you get it worked out. I would be stomping mad also if I were in your shoes, and I almost was a few weeks ago,not on the break down, but the new truck, I had the new truck fever real bad until I drove the one I wanted and the sticker price magicly healed my fever and then the fever turned into shock, like a defibulator would shock a heart patient. And that is when I decided that my ole 97 would still suffice for what I use it for and also it would out pull and run better than the new one. Goodluck,,Rick

OK Wise guy!!

OK HI EVERYONE!!!!!! Feel better?

Sorry, but i didnt know i had to be an officail member for a set period of time before i could ask a question. I have been reading the site for some time, but never had reason to post.

Do i have to mop the floors and clean the bathrooms before i become an approved member like my buddies yacht club does?

I'm just kidding Rick, I know what you mean, and thanks for your reply.
This really is a great site!

Rick,
Also, i know EXACTLY what you mean, i still have my 94. It runs great at 180k miles, and still looks good, (it's getting a little tired as far as paint and the front end goes through some parts).
I would never had thought about gettinga new one, but my 94 truck is a single cab, and it's time to start having kids. Plus my employer got me a decent discount. The sticker was $43k, and i got it for $37k. (not that I'm still not scared to death of the payment). Plus the 0% financing helped, it saves me over $3k in the end.
The new truck is a black 4-door, chrome package and aluminum wheels, its just like a a hot young girl with expensive tastes, you know its gonna kill you, but you still gotta have it.

I let everyone know how i make out, good or bad.

Unfortunately, I'm not in a position to help you. But here are my thoughts on the matter. They should be very upfront with you and willing to show you something in writing (TSB, etc.). The fact that you have to ask for that here is not a good sign. Assuming the problem really is contaminated diesel fuel, the first course of action is to drain the tank and replace the filter? If this doesn't solve the problems in a hurry, dump this lemon! Whoever ends up with this thing will have all sorts of latent injection system problems for years to come. Good luck and please keep us posted. And welcome to DTR to a fellow Joiseyite!

That is just too much of a coincidence, the part about the young girl with expensive tast, as that is what my wife compared me too, she said that is what your daughters are and I see where they got it from!! I bet they will get your truck straightend out, but I also would opt for a new ordered one and wait as I would see this one as a omen I am glad you didn't take me wrong just pulling your chain a bit to make you feel welcome. Actually, the service writer some other terminology for the notification, it wasn't a TSB. I think he referred to it as a "service alert" or something. I am not sure, there was too much steam coming out of my ears to hear clearly. Supposedly the Dodge rep showed up just as I was talking to the sales manager. I don't know if thats true or not, but what are the odds? My father says he knows a Dodge service manager and is going to give him a call Monday. I'll try and get the number for the Dodge rep TOO, and keep everyone updated. As long as the dealers story matches the info I come up with on my own, I will work with them. If they try to mislead me in the slightest detail, I'm going to have to walk away from it. As much as I hate lawyers, I have to admit thier strategy. Catch someone in a lie, then use that to discredit everything else they say, and hopefully win your debate.

Thanks a lot for all the advice, and the english lessons, although I prefer to think of them as typos!!

Actually you are expected to wash all our trucks!

Welcome to DTR

I think you are expecting too much. You buy a $40K+ truck and want to make it all the way home? Get real.

Okay, enough of the bad jokes.

I feel for ya! And I agree the dealer is trying to hide something from you. What they are trying to hide is they don't know what's wrong. I would have them order in a new truck (dealer trade) to your specs and move on. I would bet this truck is gonna be trouble down the road. (if you can get there).

I'm always suspicous of a "new" truck with low miles (87 I think you said) My new trucks have less than 10 when I pick them up or I reject it.
You know the clowns driving it for that 87 miles ran the heck out of it, and put what ever fuel in it just to get back to the dealer.

Keep us posted, and again welcome.

All that talk of "Bad Fuel" from the factory would make me wonder if the Dealer's Lot Jockey didn't fill it with gasoline.

Get the number of your local Dodge/Chrysler zone rep and (without going off the deep end) demand an explaination.

I would want to be there when they pop the top on the fuel filter, to check for gunk and to check the smell, might be right on about the lot jockey......... I don't know about you but I don't think they could assure me enough that the egine will be fine for its whole life after a first drive shut down caused by gasoline......... sad thing is you will have to be around when they take it apeart or be forced to trust them.
