99 oil pressure probs
Hey guys my grampa has a 99 with just a diablo chip for performance his prob is his gauge is not register oil pressure sometimes when it starts up for a long time and sometimes when he is driving the light will come on and the pressure will read 0 and the buzzer goes off then the pressure comes up and the light goes off and all is well? He and I checked the fluids and everything seems to be in order is there some sensor that will cause this>?

Re:99 oil pressure probs
The dealer has a TSB that's supposed to cure the problem.......only thing is that is basically renders the oil pressure gauge useless by making it always read approx 40 lbs of pressure.
The real fix is to replace the oil pressure sending unit on the side of the block near the lift pump.
This is considering the fact that you already know there is no real oil pressure problem brought on by clogged oil filters and such.
Re:99 oil pressure probs
so basically if I put a new filter on and it does it then I should change the sensor? Other then that he can get the ******* to make the gauge useless.

I've seen several postings about the bouncing oil pressure guage.
If your're already using a fleetguard or equivilent oil filter, I'd try replacing the pressure sender before I'd let the dealer screw up my truck with a suspect reflash.

Re:99 oil pressure probs
To replace that Oil pressure sensor, its on the ECM side of the truck, it is brown/tan plastic with a brass front end threaded into the block. It is located on the drivers side near the ECM.

To change it, unplug it from the wire harness, then unscrew it from the engine block with a 32mm DEEP well socket.
Buy a new Sender/sensor from a Cummins Dealer then reinstall torquing to about 8nm (not very tight at all, just contact and about a 1/3 turn)

--Justin
