Question '97 auto tranny unmotivated mystery

My '97 2500 with the automatic trannsmision has been really unmotivated lately and I have not figured out why. I adjusted the bands, changed the filter and fluid, and replaced the tranmsission output speed sensor since it showed a code 15, all of which seems to have helped a bit but I am still scared to drive it because it is really slow to get to an indicated 55mph which is really more like 47. At that speed, it feels pretty good like the engine is linked up to the wheels. Above that speed it seems to be slipping and more and more rpms are required to gain any speed, and getting there seems like pure slippage misery, taking too much time and not liking much power at all. It's got 106K, and I don't want to take to a shop because, no doubt, I would be told it needs a total overhaul not what was really needed. When I changed the fluid and filter, the fluid was normal in appearance and smell, the old filter was really clean looking, and there was hardly a trace of debris or wear particles in the pan. What is up with this tranny? Help, I can't afford to keep missing the root cause on this, or shotgun it. My next concept is a can of transx and sell it quick. Sometimes, it can't decide how to shift and shudders as it vacilates.

A webo says if you adjusted bands correctlly and changed oil/filter connectlly then you may have more serious issues. Like it or not.
Does it take off like in 3 rd gear but eventually upshifts? That is sort of what I read in you description! Then it gets to a higher RPM than should above 55-60 MPH? Is it pulling hard while doint this?
