94 auto tranny/ throttle position sensor?
i got my tranny rebuilt a month ago, i put about 3k on it and then all of a sudden i am having major problems. for the first 15 to 20 minutes it will not shift into overdrive or lock the convertor. and the trans temp light is on the whole time, even at start up. then it will shift into od and lock out and the light will go out. about 6 seconds later the light comes on and it goes back to drive. if i take a corner hard it will shift back into od and lock out then shift back down. if its in od when i take the corner it will shift out, so it goes both ways.
the guy that did the rebuild said it was my trans temp sensor and replaced. i said no but he got 125k out of the last rebuild so i wanted to belive him. so 50 bucks wasted there.
now he says its the throttle positioning sensor? i just cant seem to belive that and its 200 bucks so i am not excited about that since i am still in college. does anyone one think that makes sence? and anyone know where the sensor is so i can do it my self and see if it fixes it?
anyother suggestions. i seem to think its in the filter or pickup. like it loses line pressure? i just dont know much about auto transmitions. HELP please!

searchin i seem to see the tps could be a reason for the OD to lockup but woudl it go do drive also. because running 75 then the engine pulling it to 60 when it does it because of gearing cant be good!

If you want to rule out the tps for free cut it apart with a razor knife on the seam.clean it out with contact cleaner and seal it back with silicone. You can also use a chainsaw file and slot out the holes and adjust it one way or another ,it worked for me.Mine wouldnt stay locked up.you could also check the control cable thats hooked to the throttle, maybe it need re adjusted since they put the trans back in.use the search on here to find how to adjust it and check dodgeram.org

Most decent tranny shops will hook up a laptop to the tranny test port under the dash and tell you exactly what's wrong, for free. No throwing parts at the problem as your shop seems to be doing.
The problem does sound to me more like the temp sensor or it's wiring rather than the tps.

I have to agree with Dufrain check out the tps and the cable I have a BD tranny in all my trucks so I have a pneumatic ram connected to my linkage called a pressureloc. For anyone who reads this keep this in mind if you ever need a new tranny dont let a trannyshop rebuild yours they just replace the weak parts with new weak parts I have customers call me all the time telling me how they only got 35k out of the tranny they just had rebuilt and shop only offer them a one year 12k mile warranty I sell BD-power transmissions and they offer a 100k mile warranty with a billet torque convertor with a lifetime warranty.

The culprit is your transmission temp sensor, which is in the transmission oil cooler line towards the front of the transmission, drivers side. I replace around 30 of these per year on customers trucks. When the sensor tells the computer it's too cold, it will inhibit both overdrive & torque converter clutch operation. You can purchase one from any dodge dealer for around 20-25 bucks. Takes about 5 minutes to replace.

Stone, Infidel was dead on target in recommending a good tranny tech with a laptop. I was down in the lower 48, May 2004, and had some gear shift troubles, no 1st. Took it to Dave Goerend and he hooked up an analyzer. In just a few minutes he told me I had a bad pressure sensor and the pcm was showing bad. Replaced the two parts and all was well. Might add that he tried a test pmc unit to verify the pcm as being bad before ordering the spendy part. No wasted time or parts.
