93 CTD cuts out - dies, at road speed!

cross posted from Yahoo groups + 1 gen, any help is appreciated .

The 'new to me' 93 CTD (1T dually 4x4, auto, 145k) died tonight, requiring a tow home (from a
baby Ford....) I had driven it about 20 minutes, gauges ok, no CEL, or
warning (slight hestation 200yds prior to Death., was climbing a 6%
curvey grade ~40 MPH)

It was cutting out yesterday a few times, I drained off the fuel
filter and didn't find any water.

It has finally started (like normal,- EZ)after sitting for a few hours.

Been running fine for the 300 miles I've owned it , starts well, no power house, but smooth, no smoke, except cold start

I am suspecting electrical connection of some type, as it is having
some other issues, (headlights go out intermitantly, and flashers
work for a few minutes, then quit, and work occasionally. There is
high level of moisture in cab (water leak somewhere))

I power washed the engine and under hood a few days ago, It is now
rainy, snowy ~35 degrees.

Sorry for being a newbee, I have 17 VW diesels and was / am a farm
kid, so used to bit of trouble, and can usually find a way to make
it run to get home, but not tonight, would crank but no fire. I
really need this CTD to be dependable

Any help or direction appreciated.

What is a good manual for these?
Is there much electronics involved in this gen engine? Can I just
run a hot wire to fuel valve like I do on my VW's w /VE and expect
it to run?
Any codes available like in my Dodge car? (clicking the key 5 x)

Good possibility your fuel shut off solenoid wires are loose. the connectors are prone to get loose. There should be 2 wires to it, one is a constant to hold it open while driving and the other is a xtra for the start up. also check any others on the pump (KSB) etc. also in the futuer if you experiance starting problems when the truck has been parked for a while with the front elevated it a sign your lift pump is shot. This will eventually smoke your IP also. If your not familiar to the truck you might wanna check the fuel press or just replace the LP, there only 45 bucks or so.

Like Apache said, check the connectors on the shutoff solenoid. You can try hot wiring it, it's the same solenoid the VW's use. If hot wiring it doesn't get you running, you can remove the solenoid, take out the plunger and spring, put the solenoid body back on and use the manual lever for shutdown until you get a new solenoid.

No codes that would cause an engine problem. The computer runs the charging system, the grid heaters, and the trans. The engine runs itself.

I'd change the fuel filter first, though. Who knows what's in there and how long it's been on the truck.
