92 D-350 auto tranny

Does ANYbody know what may have went out in the tranny in my 92 D-350? I had just left the red light, no load, about 100 feet down the road, 35-40 mph and something just let go. It ffely just like it just popped out of gear, no slip, no nuttin. no shifting, but a wrecker came and got it. HELP

Re:92 D-350 auto tranny

Sounds like a band or clutch pack problem.

It sounds like if its a 2wd, a clutch pack or band, like ol red97 says. If its a 4x4, then I would look at the transfer case.

Re:92 D-350 auto tranny UPDATE

I finally got a look at the parts and tranny. The shop told me that the input shaft broke. I went down to the shop to see for myself, and even had on my vaseline proof underwear. The shaft was in 1 peice, but it was missing, what I'll call a drum made to it that has teeth cut on the O.D. They just broke apart. Evidently this drives the pump, but they where sure broke. I hope to pick up my baby on Thursday. If I can getthe parts, I'll post a pic of them. the shop foreman asked if the motor or rear end had locked up, he said he had seen this only under those conditions, but nothings locked up, except for the check book. :'(

Re:92 D-350 auto tranny

That does happen with some of these trannies. It can be a bad casting, that is porous or from doing power brake stands. It can come from hauling heavy weight and working the tranny right in the torque band and stressing it.
It will need to be thoroughly cleaned out to make sure there are NO particles entering the vb to mess up the check valves, etc.
While your at it you may want to have them tweak your WOT line pressure to make sure it's at the upper end of the setting specs. This will help reduce any slippage by keeping your clutch pacs together tightly, and also you idle line pressure set to around 60psi as well.
So use a shift kit to help with this.

Bob.
