6 speed man trans fluid

Help,
I've drained all the fluid out of the transmission, picked up Mopar ATF+4 at the dodge dealer last week. I told him what I had and that's what he gave me. But the plate on the PTO cover says to ONLY Use TEXACO STF 1874.
Is the Mopar ATF+4 fine, or am I stuck until I find something else
THanks

I say take it back. Its the wrong stuff and your parts guy is on crack.

The specs for the fluid you are supposed to use is found here:

http://www.dodgeram.org/tech/transmi...5600_spec.html

Many people have used Redline MTL, Royal Purple, Amsoil with great success.

I had Redline MTL in my 2001 for 50+k miles... absolutely no problems at all.

I've been using ATF+4 in mine since I've had it and have never had a problem out of my 6 speed. ATF+4 is what it is supposed to have in it. Any dealer will tell you that. Have you looked to see if TEXACO STF 1874 is the equivalent to ATF+4? TEXACO STF 1874 is paraffin based oil. It doesn't flow as well in the cold as the synthetic ATF+4. That means in cold weather your 6 speed will not want to shift as well until it warms up. My 06 has over 180k on it using only ATF+4. With today’s close mess tranny's they need low viscosity oil. Either will work though. The TEXACO STF 1874 is what was used prior to ATF+4 in the 5 speeds. I could be wrong on that but I'm sure someone will look it up and correct me if I am.

ATF+4 goes in the new G56 transmission. You should hav ethe NV5600 six speed. Do not put ATF+4 in the NV5600! You will roast the transmission. Check your owners manual for the proper fluid.

Totally incorrect. The 5 speeds (NV4500) use Castrol Syntorq, which is no where near ATF.

Do not use a GL5 synthetic. GL5 is formulated for axles and has sulphur-bearing additives that will corrode the yellow metal used in manual transmission synchronizers. GL5 will effectively reduce synchronizer life in the NV5600 by about half.

Use a GL4 synthetic in the NV5600. The recommended fluids, Redline MTL, Texaco 1874, etc., are all rated GL4. (Along the same lines, don't use these GL4 fluids in your axles....)
