5tyh gear gone, nut is fine??
I lost 5th gear but when I took rear cover off the tranny, the gear and nut were fine. Two gears came out of the shift fork below the 5th gear shaft. There is a broken washer where the shaft goes into the main tranny housing. What can I do to fix this? Can I put the housing back on and drive in the other gears? Please help!

this is a faily common occurance on NV4500 trannies. There is a replacement shaft and nut kit that will solve the problem. You can remove all of the loose parts and drive in 4th if you have to. Check out quad4x4.com for more information.

Rockwithjason, are you talking about taking all the loose parts off the lower shaft and running in 4th? I took the shift fork and all the syncros and loose parts off the lower shaft(was told at tranny shop that it'll run fine in 4th without them). It sounded like you were talking about the upper shaft with the infamous 5th gear nut that backs off(mine is fine). I left that shaft alone. It looks like the groove at the end of the lower shaft that holds the snap ring has broken off except for a 2 inch section. I put it back together last nite, filled her with Dom Perignon(syntorque)fluid, and I'll check for leaks today, take her down off the jacks and see what happens. Wish me luck.
