5th gear nut thread pitch
Hey guys, I'm in the process of fixing a tranny problem and I'm taking care of the infamous 5th gear issue at the same time. Since the fully splined mainshafts are currently out of stock I plan on trying what another member here had done, and that's take 2 nuts and put them on, and then weld them together. I cannot find any nuts in town (Dodge can't get them until Tuesday, and they're $100/ea!!!!), so I'm thinking about having my machinist make me a couple if I am unable to come up with another idea.
Before anything else, I need to know the diameter and pitch of the threads on the mainshaft. Anybody?

Try this....
Try Quad 4x4 parts, they are about 40 bucks for a nut with washer and red loctite. You won't be able to get 2 nuts on the shaft, not enough room and you will see this once you get it taken apart. I just got the upgraded nut with a cross screw in it then torqued it to 300'/#. Then I hit it with a TIG welder and put a few tack welds on it. That was several thousand miles ago, no problems. If it breaks I found a fully splined mainshaft which is on the shelf to be put in when tranny needs a full rebuild. You can do what I did and continue shopping for the mainshaft which can be found on ebay for $125 from parts woman. good luck, cd
