4WD vibration

Hi gang,
While going to work this morning in about 4 or 5 inches of snow I needed my 4 wheel drive here and there, and when I engaged it, the truck would start to vibrate and shudder. As soon as I'd take it out of 4 wheel drive it'd calm right back down. Seems like it only does this while there's torque on the driveline... I recently had the entire front end rebuilt by a very reputable transmission and driveline shop and it hasn't done this until today, even though I used the 4WD many times since the rebuild. What could this be? It's still snowing in Whistler so I'll have to go there again in the AM... Any tips would be great.
Re:4WD vibration

Check out your drive shaft, u-joints and such. Do you have any vibration at high speed in 2wd? I was a thread about the many driveshaft vibration problems posted by SfTopSgt.

Re:4WD vibration

Three of us from small town Squamish now? I assume you are 95+ vintage with the centre axle disconnect(CAD)? The front axle u joints are all rotating and the only thing external to differential that does not rotate in 2WD is the front drive shaft. I would crawl under and look for debris that could put it out of balance or a bad U-joint. I don't think a missing balance weight would be that noticeable.

Re:4WD vibration

I was told by a local garage that they have had three trucks in where the little metal piece between the 2 ujoints on the double jointed part had fallen out, then the drive shaft vibrated like a son of a ............one guy kept using it that way and had to replace his transfer case too
