47RE TRANNY PROBLEMS! 1st Gear revving high
1st Gear revving high before it will change to second gear, then 2nd, drive and overdrive work fine, also when the truck gets warmer it gets worse, is my tranny going bad? Also sometimes If I gear it down to low then it takes off better and sometimes it will go into 2nd easier. It is a 2001 cummins with the 47RE tranny and only has 100, 000 klms on it! My tranny fluid is pink and not burnt and is at the full mark, I am lost, can anyone help?

Will it shift into 1st while still accelerating, or do you have to let off before it will shift? And I know you already stated, but if it is in 2nd, not overdrive...and you hammer on it, will it kick out of 2nd?

It starts off in first and will rev really high, and then about 3000 rpm I will let off a bit and it will jump into second gear, this sometimes takes a few tries revving it up and letting off before it jumps into second. Once it is in second, drive and overdrive there is no problem with the power, no slipping or kicking down. Also once in second it goes into drive then overdrive if I hammer on it no problem. Thanks guys for responding. I have read so much about the stock 47RE being crap today and from what I have read today reasearching this tranny people say to get one that has been rebuilt with a stage 2 or 3 kit making it stronger and replacing all the weak and bad parts. So I found a place in FL making the stage 3 ones.

I had the same problem. Mine would rev real high, shift into second and work fine in stop and go untill i turned the key off and cranked the truck again. then the first shift into second would be real hard. It ended up being either the output speed sensor or the input speed sensor on the transmission, i cant remember. Sensor was $17 and a $70 diagnostic fee and $40 labor fee.
