2nd Gen Wont Run Right...Lift Pump going south?

One of my buddies has a 2000 CTD and was cruising down the interstate today when the truck just fell on its face...would barely run.

He said that he had to keep it to the floor to even reach 30 MPH. They let it sit n' cool down for a bit....then it ran fine till it got warmed up.

I'm guessing the lift pump is on its way out??

Need some input!

a few things can be going on.. yes the lift pump maYBE GOING BAD. or the vp-44 may be on its way out. or both! has he tried to test the lift pump. either with the bumped starter trick. or with a fuel pressure gauge. if he doesnt have a fuel pressure guage, it is a necessity for 2nd gen 24v trucks.
also see if he can get anycodes read from the truck. some trucks will do this by turning the ignition switch on-off-on-off-leave on , with hitting the starter.
if it works it will give you a pcu ------ if there are any numbers those will be the codes. when its done it will go to the ecu. smae thing ECU ----- . when its done it will go back to the odometer or tripometer!

I havent had a chance to check to see if its throwing codes yet. He has a HyperTech Power Programmer so he can check codes with it along with doing it manually with the ignition...

Heh, this will be his.....2nd lift pump or maybe his 3rd. Cant remember which....

I had this happen on my truck and it was lift pump cutting in and out, it would be junning fine and then just fall on its face, turn it of and start it back up and it would run fine and then a little bit later it would do it again, changed the lift pump and never had the problem again.
